Last Conversational Dish? Maybe...

The Blowfish (aka Fugu) A dish worth dying for?

Parts of the blowfish are poisonous. Eat the wrong part & you could be dead within hours. I recommend going to a restaurant with a certified fugu chef.
Fugu could be eaten raw or cooked. My experience was eating fried blowfish in Taiwan. I think I remember it tasting like fried fish. To be honest, I was too busy being happy that I was still alive to remember what it tasted like.

Ready to try some? You might consider preparing your last will and testament first.

Conversational Chocolates

Here's one for the chocolate fans...
Chocolate covered ants
For those of you interested in home-made foods, I've included a recipe for making your own. Here is the original link for this recipe from Recipe Source: http://www.recipesource.com/munchies/snacks/chocolate-covered-ants1.html
Recipe Title: CHOCOLATE COVERED ANTS
Categories: Snacks, Desserts
Yield: 6 servings
1742 lg Ants, (if they are sm., use 2,044)
3 c Melted chocolate
  • Catch ants at a picnic site and keep them in a glass jar to which you have added a teaspoon of sugar to keep them happy. (Unhappy ants are liable to go sour before processing.)

  • At home, pick up each ant with tweezers and remove entrails with a small, very sharp knife edge. This will take about 400 hours. If you are in a hurry, eliminate this step; you'll never know the difference.

  • Dip each ant into melted chocolate and place to drain on waxed paper.
  • If any of them are still able to crawl off the paper, let them go -- be a good sport!!

Conversational Fruit

To All the FRUIT fans... Durian: The KING of FRUITs.

You can find this majestic fruit in Southeast Asia. Known for its prickly thorny exterior and creamy flesh, this fruit averages 5 lbs. It is the King of fruits because once you've had a taste of its creamy, custardy flavor, you will not want to eat other ordinary fruits again.

Ready to try one? Before you do, I think I should warn you that the durian does give off a slight odor that you can smell from just a few yards away. What does it smell like? Well, you'll have to judge for yourself, but to me, it's like a combination of puke, gym socks, a litter box, and onions that have been trapped in a small box for about one year, open it it and take a big whiff.

Come on! It can't smell that bad, right?!? Well, this sign from Singapore's Mass Rapid Transit says it all. (Notice that it's right next to "No flammable goods!")

Conversational Drinks

When there's no oasis in sight and you're dying of thirst - Where would you find something to drink in the desert?

Yes - the cactus. Just cut one of these prickly things open and it's flowing with sweet juice - no, I'm not talking about TEQUILA! That has to be fermented... (and, that's another topic)!!!

I'm talking about cactus juice. I actually found it on the web, bottled in Germany. Take a look...
What do you think? Would you try it?

Conversational Dishes 2

Extra crispy please...

Have you ever tried these delicacies? You can find them in the asian countries in places like Thailand. Did you ever think about having fried scorpions alongside your order of Pad Thai and Thai Iced Tea? The next time you are in this neighborhood, why not give them a try. Personally, I haven't had them yet, but I'll try almost anything at least once! Chow!
